Founded in 2009 by Jennifer Horn, Horn & Co. creates landscapes that respond to the architecture, terrain, and natural and social histories of a place. A licensed landscape architect in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., and an ISA Certified Arborist, her background brings a strong understanding of plants, ecology, and environmental stewardship to the practice.
Working closely with architects, clients, and allied professionals, Horn & Co. designs landscapes with consideration for how gardens change through the seasons and mature over time. The firm prioritizes site-appropriate plantings, native species, responsible materials, and sustainable practices, seeking to enhance the natural environment while respecting the character and history of each site.

Services
Landscape Architecture & Garden Design: Horn & Co. designs residential and commercial landscapes ranging from small gardens to expansive properties. Working in dialogue with the architecture and surrounding terrain, the firm composes outdoor spaces for gathering, recreation, and retreat, including terraces, pergolas, swimming pools, sports areas, community gardens, herb gardens, and potagers. Each landscape is considered as part of the larger setting rather than as an element separate from the architecture or site.
Horticulture & Planting Design: Planting is central to Horn & Co.’s work. The firm selects plants for their relationship to climate, soil, existing ecology, seasonal progression, and the long-term character of a garden. Native and site-appropriate species are prioritized, with careful consideration given to plant health, habitat, and the way a landscape will develop and adapt over time.
Sustainable Landscape Design: Horn & Co. incorporates responsible environmental practices throughout the design and implementation process. Strategies may include managing stormwater, preserving established trees and habitat, using local materials and ethically sourced products, and supporting organic gardening practices. The firm’s approach seeks to enhance the beauty of the natural world while minimizing impact on the ecosystems and environments in which it works.
