Bethesda Modern

In response to the renovation of this addition, we worked with Cunningham Quill Architects to create a landscape plan that accomplished two things: to create concentric “circles” of paving, planting, and water to offset the round shape of the architectural additions in the front and back, and to establish large masses of plants that varied in texture or color to reference the Client’s impressive art collection, which is evocative of color field paintings. A privacy screen of Arborvitae is offset by Purple Smoketree, Purple Candles Astilbe, and Annabelle Hydrangea for a palette of soft color. The clients had purchased a large piece of driftwood to feature in the garden so we laser cut this driftwood’s silhouette into a steel panel and used it in the gate leading to the back garden for an aesthetic point of interest.
