Woodbine
The long narrow property on the side of a hill needed to provide entertaining spaces both large and small for our very social clients. The property divides into two long strips, so we turned the right side into a great lawn that terminates at a quaint shed. On the left we created a series of stepped terraces; the first leads down to the bluestone water feature, the second to the Kitchen Garden, and the third to the sports court. The property is enclosed by a Hemlock-hedged border with a structure of Boxwoods and Sweetbox for low evergreen ground cover. Flowers include Iris, Astilbe, Hollyhock, Japanese Spirea, and trailing roses. The simple picket fence has a cannonball gate closer, reinforcing the Colonial English feel to the garden and its pageantry of color and texture.
